How to use the online tally counter

Your first counter is ready at zero. Click or tap Add to begin; no naming or setup is required. Keep up to 32 independent tallies in this workspace, without an account.

  1. Start with Add. Each press counts one. Subtract reduces the tally; ordinary counters stop at zero.

  2. Add another counter when you need a separate tally. Each keeps its own value and settings.

  3. Choose Cards or List. Cards gives each tally large controls. List keeps several names, values and counting controls together.

  4. Use Edit beside a counter to change its name, step or optional goal. Cancel leaves those settings unchanged.

  5. Undo a mistake. Workspace Undo corrects the most recent eligible action, whichever counter it affected. Subtract makes a new counting action.

  6. Check the saved status. Keep a JSON backup of work you need later; CSV gives you a spreadsheet snapshot.

What each counter feature does

Counting and Edit stay visible in either view. Manage counter holds the less frequent operations, including confirmed reset and delete choices.

Count and correct

Add
Increases the value by the current step size.
Subtract
Decreases the value by the same step, unless a set limit blocks it.
Step size
Changes how much Add or Subtract applies each time.
Goal
Shows progress towards a target without resetting the count when it is reached.
Undo
Corrects the latest available action in the current Undo history.

Organise counters

Edit
Changes the name, step and goal through one form.
Manage counter
Opens colour, duplicate, reorder, reset and delete controls.
Make active
Marks one counter as primary while keeping every counter usable.
Recent history
Lists recent changes and identifies actions corrected by Undo.
Reset counter
Returns one value to its session start while keeping that counter's setup.

Sessions and files

Start new session
Archives the completed session and begins another with the same counter setup.
Export JSON
Keeps the full CountNook workspace and is suitable for restoring it.
Export CSV
Creates a readable spreadsheet snapshot without the full undo or event history.
Import JSON
Checks and previews a CountNook backup before replacing the current workspace. It does not merge files.

Ways to use CountNook

When counting a box of mixed stationery, name three counters Pens, Pencils and Markers. Choose List and add to the matching row as you sort. For sealed packs of ten pens, Edit that tally's step to 10, then return it to 1 for loose pens. Undo an accidental tap before continuing. Each tally stays independent; CountNook does not calculate stock levels or track purchases.

  • AttendancePeople arriving or leaving.
  • Stock or itemsBoxes, parts or completed checks.
  • Exercise repetitionsReps, sets or movements.
  • Music practice repetitionsFor one ordered stream of self-judged Clean and Retry attempts towards a consecutive target, use the Music Practice Repetition Counter.
  • Rows or stitchesProgress through a craft project. For repeats, row or round history and immediate correction, use the dedicated stitch and row counter.
  • Laps or roundsRepeated circuits or timed blocks.
  • Prayer, chant or mantra repetitionsA private manual count with a chosen goal.
  • Habits or repeated tasksDaily actions or routine work.
  • Scores and game eventsFor a complete player-by-round ledger with signed scores, corrections and high- or low-score results, use the Game Night Scorekeeper.

How browser saving works

A saved counter stays useful only when its storage limits are clear. CountNook reports “Saved in this browser” after it verifies the local copy it wrote.

This browser

Your workspace is stored in the browser you are using. Another browser or device will not receive it automatically.

No account

No account is currently required. There is no cloud backup, account-based copy or automatic device sharing.

Storage can be cleared

Private browsing, browser settings or clearing site data can remove local work. JSON export is the safest portable backup currently available.

Tabs are protected, not synced

Multi-tab protection lets one tab save edits at a time. It prevents quiet overwrites; it is not a cloud backup, sync service or collaboration.

Cards or List is a separate preference for this tab. Refreshing keeps your choice when session storage is available; it is absent from backups. With no preference, one restored counter opens in Cards and several open in List. Adding counters or importing a backup keeps the current view. If the browser cannot remember the view, counting still works. Follow any workspace save or recovery message before relying on local data.

Reset, sessions and backups

Reset, a new session and a backup solve different problems. Check the distinction before changing a count you may need later.

Keep the session

Reset one counter

Reset keeps the counter's name, colour, step, goal and position, but returns its value to the start of the current session.

Close the session

Start a new session

A new session archives the completed one, keeps the counter setup and begins fresh session values.

Take a copy

Choose JSON or CSV

JSON is the restorable CountNook backup. CSV is a readable spreadsheet snapshot and does not preserve the full undo or event history.
