Record a completed round

A round, sometimes called a frame, includes all four bags from each side. Use two player names or two team names. You can start with Side A and Side B and change the labels later. The optional initial first throw records your choice; leaving it blank does not guess a starter.

  1. Wait for final positions. Count only valid bags after the round ends. A bag pushed into the hole scores there; its first landing does not decide its value. Players judge fouls, bag validity and disputes before entering counts.

  2. Select all four counts. Choose In the hole and On the board for both sides. Select zero explicitly when none qualify. Each side has four bags, so the two counts cannot total more than four.

  3. Check the calculation. The preview separates raw bag points from points awarded after cancellation. Selections save a draft; they do not change the game score. Close entry to return to the same draft later.

  4. Choose Save round. This records one completed round and updates the totals. A zero-point round is still a recorded round. The saving message tells you whether the browser stored it successfully.

Bag points cancel before totals change

Each side has four bags. A valid hole bag is worth 3 points, a valid board bag 1 point, and a non-scoring bag 0 points.

Subtract the lower raw score from the higher raw score. Only the side with the higher raw score receives the difference. Equal raw scores award no points to either side.

The first side to reach 21 or more wins after a completed round. You do not need exactly 21 or a two-point lead. There is no bust rule in this scorekeeper.

Seven against five awards two

A has 2 hole bags and 1 board bag: 7 raw points. B has 1 hole bag and 2 board bags: 5 raw points. Cancellation awards A 2 points and B 0. From 9–6, the score becomes 11–6.

Different bags can tie

A has 1 hole bag and 0 board bags. B has 0 hole bags and 3 board bags. Each has 3 raw points, so neither scores. With zero holes and zero board bags for both sides, a saved round also awards nothing.

Passing 21 still finishes

At 20–7, A records 1 hole bag and 1 board bag against B’s zero holes and zero board bags. A receives 4 points and wins 24–7 after that round.

Who throws first next?

The coin-toss winner chooses the initial first throw. After a scoring round, the side awarded points throws first. After a tied round, the previous first throw stays with the same side. If it was not set, guidance remains unknown until a side scores.

A correction can change where the game ends

Open any retained, non-removed round to correct its final bag counts. The preview shows the resulting score, winner and first-throw guidance. Cancel leaves history untouched; saving unchanged counts also makes no change.

Removing a round keeps its record visible so you can restore it. The earliest eligible winning round decides the result. Later rounds remain visible as “Not counted after the win”; their points do not enter the total. If another correction reactivates them, review that consequence before applying it.

For example, a winning round takes 19–7 to 21–7 by awarding A 2. Correcting it to award A 1 changes the total to 20–7 and resumes play. A saved draft, if present, is available to review before recording another round.

Flexible editing and restoration are CountNook casual scorekeeping features. ACL competition correction and finality procedures are narrower, including a following-round correction window and a specific mistaken-winning-concession exception. This tool does not claim tournament compliance or enforce those procedures.

Saving, backups and limits

Resume this game in the same browser. There are no accounts, cloud sync, shared links or simultaneous device editing. Another tab is read-only until you explicitly take over editing. An editor opened before a takeover must be reopened; an old confirmation cannot overwrite a changed game.

Check the saving message

“Saved in this browser” follows a checked browser write. If a round is recorded here but saving fails, use Retry save rather than entering it again. Recovery controls distinguish retained changes from the browser’s saved game. Private browsing, storage settings or clearing site data can remove records. Browser-local state does not guarantee offline availability.

Keep a JSON backup

JSON preserves current names, first throw, draft and all retained counted, removed and excluded rounds. Import validates and previews a whole-game replacement. It does not merge games or replace another tool’s workspace. Compacted old edit versions and a library of previous games are not included.

Export a readable scorecard

CSV includes raw bag counts, awarded points and running totals for counted rounds. Removed and excluded rows have a clear status and no awarded or running score. CSV is for reading in a spreadsheet; use JSON to restore the game.

One hundred retained slots

CountNook retains up to 100 round records, including removed and excluded records. Removing one does not free a slot. At the limit, correction, restoration and exports remain available. Export your game, then choose New game to record more rounds. Confirming New game replaces the current game and draft.
